Alicante reopens El Palmeral after thorough renovation

Alicante's iconic El Palmeral park shines again in all its glory after ten days of closure for the installation of new technical flooring in the play and sports areas. This completes the complete renovation that will make the park more accessible, greener and attractive to families and visitors.
Alicante City Council has invested a total of 1.3 million euros in this large-scale refurbishment, of which almost one million euros was invested in the second phase. This phase included the construction of six new play and calisthenics areas, a Pump Track track, picnic areas and the modernization of the small harbor.
During a visit in March, Mayor Luis Barcala announced that the park would reopen in time for Easter. In addition to the new play facilities, pergolas were installed to create more shaded areas, making the stay even more pleasant.
The work was carried out by the company Imesapi S.A. and included:
-
Renovation of access roads, paths and bridges
-
Renovation of lakes and water channels
-
Replacement of street furniture and installation of new informational signs
-
Planting of additional palm trees, trees, shrubs and flowers
-
Improving accessibility and safety, including new handrails and walkways
All new playground equipment meets the latest safety standards and is inclusive and interactive, including trampolines, musical games and sports circuits. Benches with tables have been placed in the picnic areas, often under a pergola, so that parents can relax comfortably while children play.
Technical improvements have also been made, including:
-
Renewal of the irrigation systems
-
Installation of special safety floors in the play areas
-
Technical upgrades to the lakes' water treatment and circulation systems
Since its opening in 1997, El Palmeral has been a favorite spot for residents and tourists alike, thanks to its unique combination of more than seven thousand palm trees, recreational facilities and sea views. Thanks to this renovation, the park is ready for a new generation of visitors.
