Spain is known for its many public holidays. Nearly 96% of the Spanish population is Roman Catholic, with the remainder being Protestant, Muslim, or Jewish. Because so many Spaniards are Catholic, Catholic holidays are always celebrated nationally. It’s a celebration for everyone. In 2024, there are 12 official public holidays in Spain, nine of which are celebrated nationwide. The remaining holidays are determined by the various autonomous regions, and each region also has its own holiday. Lastly, there are local holidays, but we won't cover those in this overview. We’ve listed all the holidays for the regions.
Just like in the Netherlands, the year in Spain starts with a public holiday: January 1st is New Year's Day. The Spaniards also have a day off on:

December 8th (Immaculate Conception) falls on a Sunday in 2024 and may be moved to Monday, December 9th by regional authorities.

Holidays in Andalusia, Spain
Andalusia has one official regional holiday: Día de Andalucía on February 28th. Additionally, there are two local holidays: Feria de San Bernabé and Feria de San Pedro de Alcántara. Both holidays are in honor of the patron saint and are traditionally celebrated with a church mass, processions, markets, a fair, and plenty of food, music, and dancing.
